Should I get a pest inspection?

Although a pest inspection is not required except for government loans, it is a good idea to get one for the peace of mind knowing that your new home is not being damaged by termites or other wood destroying insects.

There is nothing worse than moving into a home and finding out your home is infested with bugs, mice, rats or any other unwanted guests. Problems that arise with these unwanted guests are often not apparent on the surface and thus could cost you thousands of dollars down the road.

A pest inspection is like buying insurance. You pay for it up front so that there is no risk of having to pay even more down the road.

If time allows, make sure to get all the inspections that will put your mine to ease. There is nothing wrong with asking for inspections that will give you peace of mind when buying your new home.

Be prepared to pay for the pest inspection out of your own pocket.

Each geographic area has pests that are local to the region and these pets are the main cause for concern. A certified exterminator will be able to inspect your home for potential problems, some extermination companies offer free inspections to home owners. If your home pass's a pest inspection you still have work as a home owner to prevent pests from invading your new home. The best thing to do is discuss preventative measures with your exterminator/pest inspector and have them explain when, why and where is the best place around the home to implement them.

The cost of a pest inspection is minimal compared to the potential aggravation and cost of serious termite damage. Many home inspectors also perform a pest inspection as well. Serious termite/pest damage can cause structural problems in a property.
